Fencing Squads Hope for Top Finish at Ranney-Hosted Prep State Champs

Tournament opens February 17 on campus.
All eyes will be on the Varsity Fencing team’s foil and epee squads February 17 as they face 12 other strong school teams in the 2015-16 Prep State Championships. Ranney School is hosting the state-wide event.

Epee Squad member Ariana Mangano ’19 of Colts Neck is coming off a 1st-place finish in the District Championships and will try to take first again in her individual event. In Women’s Foil, senior Nicole Vaiani of Wall finished 2nd in the District Championships and is seeking a top finish (read about Nicole’s UPenn placement).

“We are looking for a strong showing from Rebekah Lo ’17 of Ocean in Women’s Sabre and Olivia Eaddy ’17 of Wall in Women’s Foil as well on the women’s team,” says Coach Mohammed Shafaie.

On the men’s team, all eyes will be on Jack Park ’17 of Colts Neck in Men’s Sabre—Jack is coming off a strong performance at Districts, where he placed 9th. In addition, Alec Taffin and Eric Wu are expected to score big in Men’s Epee.
