Ranney School senior Audra Smires—holder of nine varsity swim records—was offered an athletic scholarship to Lehigh University’ Division I Swim Team. Smires signed her letter of intent on November 11, 2015 on Ranney’s campus, supported by her family, coaches and college guidance counselors. “I knew I wanted to find a college that offered a balance of athletics and academics, and after researching several schools and meeting Lehigh’s coach, I knew it was the place for me,” she said.

During the 2014-15 swim season, Smires came in 2nd in the 50 Freestyle and 3rd in the 100 Freestyle at the NJISAA Swimming Championships. She came in 2nd in both skill events at the Shore Conference Tournament Girls’ Swim Championship, marking the first time a Ranney student has achieved such a ranking in the Shore swim conference. In fact, Smires holds nearly all of Ranney’s middle and high school swim records. “Ranney has been so good to me. I’ve had an amazing experience here,” she said.

Smires, who lives in Freehold, is a member of the National Honor Society and National Art Honor Society. Her younger brother, Aidan, is an eighth-grader at Ranney and also a member of the school swim team. As for next year at Lehigh, Smires adds, “I’m looking forward to new memories, new people and to swimming faster!”
