Burlington to Join Fairfield Rowers

Ranney School senior Mallory Burlington of Spring Lake signed a National Letter of Intent with the Varsity Rowing Program at Fairfield University in Connecticut on Monday, April 18, 2016. Receiving early action admittance and an athletic grant, she will join the Fairfield Stags next fall. Mallory has been a member of Ranney’s Co-Ed Crew team for the past four years, most recently serving as team captain. She is also a member of the Upper School Chorus, the Tri-M® Music Honor Society and Saved by a Stitch knitting club.

“Ranney’s College Guidance Office offered me so much support the past couple of years - they helped me stay organized and on task,” says Mallory, who hopes to pursue finance or environmental economics in college. She says that getting the letter from Fairfield was a huge relief and she’s now excited about joining the team when practices begin mid-August.

Mallory is the member of the team that every coach dreams about having,” said Ranney Math Teacher Christine Cicero, who previously coached Ranney’s crew team. “She is hard-working, strong, has a positive attitude, leads by example, encourages her teammates, and every other thing that a coach wishes their athletes could and would do.”

Mallory is the third female Ranney School athlete in the Class of 2016 to sign with Division I collegiate programs. Audra Smires of Freehold (full story) will be joining Lehigh University’s Swim Team and Nicole Vaiani of Wall will be joining the University of Pennsylvania’s Fencing Team next fall (full story).

Adds Mallory’s advisor and Math Department Chair Ms. Laura Goodrow, “
Mallory’s beautiful smile and matching personality have been a joy to me both as her teacher and her advisor.  Her calm demeanor and self-confidence make her a natural leader by example. Mallory always does the right thing. It’s just who she is! She genuinely cares about other people, whether they are friends or not, and she models a moral compass that is beyond reproach.”
