Alexis Redish Signs with Clark’s Div III Softball Team

Senior Alexis Redish of Howell has committed to pitch for Clark University’s softball team. Located in Massachusetts, Clark U. softball participates in the NCAA Division III New England Men’s and Women’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC). A scholar-athlete, Redish has been playing the sport since fourth grade, joining Ranney’s team as a freshman.

“I began playing softball because I enjoy the sport. I never thought this would happen,” said Redish after officially signing her commitment on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2016. Surrounded by her family, coach, advisors, and teammates, Redish added that she always felt challenged by her 4-foot, 9-inch frame. “Most pitchers are 6-feet tall. Whenever I stepped onto the field, I felt I had to earn the other team’s respect. I gave 110% every time, and by the end of each game, I had their respect.” Indeed, Redish pitched 134 strikeouts in her sophomore season and improved upon that as a junior! She is looking forward to pitching once more for the Ranney Panthers this spring before she joins the Clark Cougars.

Redish thanks her travel softball team, Nightmare Fastpitch, her teammates and coaches, and her college counselor Andrea Velasquez for helping her to find a school that she really likes and for guiding her through the this path. “I received a verbal offer last spring after Clark came to watch me pitch, and in that moment, all my hard work had paid off.”

Last season, Redish earned the 2016 Athletic Director Award for embodying a strong work ethic, positive attitude, loyalty, and commitment to her team. She is also a member of the National Spanish Honor Society. The senior, who plans to major in psychology, advises younger players to “just have fun. You don’t have to be good right away—if you enjoy softball or any sport, join the team!”
