A Welcome Back to School from the Athletic Director

I’d like to welcome all of our Ranney athletes back to school for what promises to be a great year of sportsmanship, team play, special events and school spirit!
I’d like to welcome all of our Ranney athletes back to school for what promises to be a great year of sportsmanship, team play, special events and school spirit! Our fall sports teams are already in full swing, with the cross country, field hockey, girls’ and boys’ soccer, and the girls’ tennis teams making headway in their preseason schedule and preparing to enter their first games.

I would also like to welcome back Mr. Denis Noonan, who has stepped up into the Assistant Athletic Director role. Mr. Noonan previously served as Ranney’s Physical Education Department Chair and is excited to work more closely with our interscholastic teams. And a warm welcome to our new fall and winter sport coaches: Taj Holden (Varsity Boys’ Basketball), Anthony Vasquez (Boys’ Soccer), Alex Vieria (Boys’ Soccer Assistant), Pete DeNoble (Swim) and Middle School Head Matt Hall (Varsity Baseball).

Along with this new team, I am thrilled to share our growing athletic vision with you. At Ranney, we approach interscholastic sports as a tool that can be used to teach and practice good citizenship. To this end, we believe winning and losing is important – but only when considered in the context of how we play the game and how we represent ourselves and our school under the pressure of competition. We believe that interscholastic athletics are an integral part of the educational program at Ranney. Participation on a team promotes desirable attitudes toward the importance of teamwork, team unity, social growth and maturation of all individuals involved while also helping to prepare participants for the responsibilities of adult life.

Our goals are two-fold: that every student have an opportunity to become involved in the athletic program – if not as an athlete, than in other capacities, such as a manager, statistician or videographer; and that the coaches and participants strive at all levels to develop and display the attitudes of good sportsmanship, good citizenship and loyalty to their teams and to the school.

As part of this vision, we are introducing the Ranney PAC, which stands for Ranney Parent Athletic Club. As a PAC member, parents can volunteer to working in partnership with the school and athletic department to support all of the Varsity, JV and Middle School Teams at Ranney. The purpose of PAC is to: support our student athletes – with encouragement and sustenance; appreciate and support our coaches; promote school spirit and good sportsmanship; increase participation in the athletic program; and nurture positive relationship among parents, coaches and students.

Volunteer opportunities include everything from donating snacks for teams to
donate snacks for teams to coordinating sport award banquets. Learn more about PAC.

With regard to sport award banquets, another change we are happy to announce this school year is the framework for our seasonal assemblies. We will be honoring all of our student athletes year-round by holding sport-specific banquets at the end of the fall, winter and spring seasons. These banquets will be held in the evenings (dates to be announced) and give students participating in each sport a unique chance to celebrate with their teammates, coaches and family members.

We hope to see all our Ranney Panther community members at our second annual “Friday Night under the Lights” game, taking place October 16 as part of Homecoming Weekend and Fall Festival, to cheer on our girls’ soccer team as they play against Calvary Christian School.

Sincerely,
Bobby Malone
Athletic Director
