October 10 – Panther Visits will begin
January 18 – Priority Deadline for all completed applications
February 1 –  Decision notification
March 15 –  Enrollment contracts due
*All files completed after January 18 will receive a rolling decision after February 1 based on space availability.

Admission Process by Grade

For students applying to Lower School (Beginners Age 3 - Grade 5)

Online Application
In order to apply to Ranney’s Lower School, an online application must be submitted via the myRanney portal.  Click here to begin an application and submit the $75 application fee.   
 
Please note : Applicants to Ranney's Beginner program must be 3 by October 15th of the year of entry, Pre-Kindergarten applicants must be 4 by October 15th of the year of entry and Kindergarten applicants must be 5 by October 15th of the year of entry.

Lower School Applicant Checklist
Once an application is processed, families can log into their myRanney account to access their applicant checklist.  This checklist will indicate the items needed in order to complete the applicant’s file.   These items may include teacher recommendation forms and copies of school transcripts.
 
Testing
  • Applicants for Kindergarten will complete a standard skills assessment during their morning Panther Visit.
  • Applicants for Grades 1-5 are required to complete a standardized screening, using the (CTP) ERB admissions assessment, during their scheduled Panther Visit.
Panther Visit
All applicants are required to schedule a campus visit date with the Admissions Office.  This date will be scheduled once the application is received and processed.  
  • Applicants for Beginners and Pre-Kindergarten: Students will be observed in a peer playgroup setting to assess developmental and social skills. Playgroups are scheduled one morning per month, depending on application volume.
  • Applicants for Kindergarten: Applicants will visit from 8:45 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Students will join a current pre-kindergarten class for morning activities. A standard skills assessment will follow.
  • Applicants for Grades 1-5: These visits run 8:45 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Applicants will complete their testing requirements, and then the remainder of the day is spent in a classroom with peers in his or her current grade level.  Lunch is provided. Additionally, parent interviews will be scheduled with the Director of Admissions prior to the conclusion of the visit.
 

For students applying to Grades 6-8

Online Inquiry:
If you haven’t already done so, CLICK HERE to submit a “Request for Information Form”. (This will create an initial account in myRanney.)
 
Online Application:
In order to apply to Ranney’s Middle School, an online application must be submitted via the myRanney portal.  Click here to begin an application and submit the $75 application fee.

School Report and Transcript Form:

We require a current grade report and two preceding years of academic records for our applicants.  Once you supply an email address and the name of school’s registrar, they will receive the request to upload your report card online.   
 
Testing:
Applicants for Grades 6-8 may submit standardized test scores from the prior year (ERBs, PARC testing, etc.) If testing is unavailable, applicants may sit for a brief reading and quantitative test during their admission visit. (There is no need to prepare in advance for this testing.)
 
Panther Visit:
Students will spend a full day on campus, which will include the testing requirement if applicable, a student interview with a member of the Middle School administration, shadowing classes with a current student, and attending lunch.
 

For students applying to Grades 9-12

Note: Students may opt to apply online through the Standard Application Online (SAO) through SSAT if they are applying to multiple schools requiring this application.

Testing:
Applicants may submit standardized test scores from the prior year (ERBs, PSATs, ISEE, PARC testing, etc.) 
  • Students applying to grades who would like to be considered for a merit-scholarship are strongly encouraged to take the SSAT (Secondary School Admission Test).  Applicants may register for the test at www.ssat.org.  The Ranney School SSAT Code is 6002.
Note: Ranney School will host two SSAT testing dates on campus: Sat., Nov. 10 & Sat., Dec. 8. Test results will take three weeks to process, so registering for these dates will allow sufficient time for the results to reach us by our January 15 Scholarship deadline.
 
Panther Visit:
Students will spend a full day on campus (8:15 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.), which includes a student interview with a member of the Upper School administration, shadowing classes with a current student, and attending lunch.

For international students applying to Grades 7-12

Online Application:
Ranney School uses the Standard Application Online (SAO) through The Enrollment Management Association for international applications. To begin the admissions process, you will need to go to The Enrollment Management Association website and create an account: www.ssat.org/sao.  Complete the Student Bio section and pay your application fee; then, you will be able to add Ranney School to your profile and complete the following sections:
  • Parent Statement: This is an opportunity for a parent/guardian to express their thoughts about the student’s personal, academic, and social strengths and characteristics. This should be completed and signed electronically by the parent/guardian for submission.
  • Student Essays: Applicants will be asked to complete a questionnaire and brief essay. 
  • Teacher Recommendations (two required): This step will ask for the names and email addresses of two of the applicant’s current English and math teachers.  These teachers will receive an email with a link for their recommendation forms, which will then be uploaded directly to your SAO application
School Report and Transcript Form:

Testing:
  • Students applying to grades 9-12 should also submit a TOEFL score. Students applying to 7th and 8th grade may submit a TOEFL Jr.
  • Applicants are not required to take the SSAT (Secondary School Admission Test) in addition to the TOEFL, but it is recommended to strengthen your application.  (We do not publish an SSAT minimum score.)
Note: International students should not delay in submitting their applications due to test scores.
 
Interview/ Campus Visit:
 
  • Students may arrange their admission interview by Skype. (It is preferred to schedule the interview early in the admission season.) In addition, families may schedule a tour of campus with the Director of Admission.
  • Students may also request to spend a full day on campus (8:15 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.) to shadow a current student. Full day visits may only be scheduled once an application is complete.
