Welcome to College Counseling

The College Office is one of the distinguishing features of Ranney School. Highly knowledgeable counselors, who bring college application review experience to the table, carefully and skillfully guide each student (and their families) through the college search and selection process, providing the individualized attention and care that is characteristic of the Ranney experience. Applying to college can be demanding, but the door to Ranney’s College Office is always open, and counselors are always ready with the solid advice and strong support needed for a stress-free college application process.

At Ranney, college planning and finding the right-fit school for each student begins as early as the eighth grade, when students and their families are introduced to the process; they are each assigned a college counselor at the end of ninth grade.* As students move into their sophomore and junior years, students and their parents are invited to attend college fairs and more in-depth workshops on the college process. They are advised on courses, schedules, extracurricular activities, summer plans, and standardized test preparation. Through personalized, in-depth counseling, students are able to begin building their unique college profiles early in their Upper School careers, ultimately leading them to find one or more higher educational institutions where they will thrive.

As a result of this approach, 100% of Ranney graduates attend four-year colleges and universities year after year.

“We approach each student’s college journey differently, taking into consideration their unique interests, personalities, long-term aspirations, and family needs. It is not our primary goal to see that every student gets into the most prestigious school, but rather, to ensure that every student finds the right-fit school—so that they can truly thrive throughout their college career and beyond.”
