Library Resources

Ranney has two campus libraries. The Searle Library, located in the Annex Building, serves our Lower School Division and houses a new media center while the Paulus Library, located in the Middle/Upper School Academic Complex, serves our Middle and Upper School students. Our web-based resources provide students, teachers and parents with on- and off-campus access to more than 50 databases and over 20,000 eBooks. Our libraries also house more than 25,000 print volumes of fiction and nonfiction for both recreational reading and academic research.

Together, the Searle and Paulus Libraries, along with their highly trained and supportive library staff, provide the depth and range of resources essential to academics success, at all levels of learning.

About the Paulus Library
Built in 2001, the Paulus Library is situated in the center of the Middle and Upper School Academic Complex and serves as the hub of information, communication, and technology for students in grades 6 through 12. Students have ready access to a comprehensive collection of accurate, authoritative, and current online resources for conducting scholarly research; a broad spectrum of print materials, including reference, fiction, and non-fiction books to support deep curricular content knowledge; classic and popular literature in a variety of formats to encourage a lifelong love of reading and learning; multimedia production tools for authoring audio and video presentations; and an array of digital media tools for creating, publishing, and sharing student work.

The Paulus Library program is informed and guided by national library media program and technology standards, including: Standards for the 21st Century Learner, national library standards proposed by the American Association of School Librarians (AASL); The Partnership for 21st Century Skills, a national organization endorsed by leaders in education and business that advocates for 21st century readiness for every student; and ISTE-NETS-S standards, which identify skills and abilities that students need to master for success in our global society.

About the Searle Library
The Searle Library serves Ranney’s Early Childhood and Lower School students. The library collection consists of nearly 10,000 books, as well as magazines and e-books. All grades have a class with the librarian once during their 6-day cycles, and are able to check out books at that time. Our Age-3 Beginners come to the library twice each week. Library classes range in content according to grade levels, and focus on literature appreciation and research skills. The library is also open throughout the school day for students, teachers and parents to check out books. The new Media Center within the library provides an additional space for interactive learning, research, digital visual arts and more.
