Lower Schoolers Participate in CJMEA Honors Orchestra Festival

On Saturday, April 13, 11 Ranney Lower School Orchestra students participated in the 2019 CJMEA Elementary and Middle School Honors Festival. The Festival took place at Lawrence High School. Students were grouped in two orchestras:

Red Orchestra:
Lexi Nissinoff and Sloane Paulus - violin
Avi Rao and Sydney Zipp - viola
Daniel Zheng, William Mallach and Nick Magnone - cello

Gold Orchestra:
Saahil Gala - violin
Olivia Piro and Alexander Lennon - viola
Lukas Vitenas -bass

The students worked all morning with their conductors preparing for the performance at 2:30 PM. The preparation included sectional rehearsals, string techniques and concert/stage practice and etiquette.

“We all had a wonderful time and I am sure the students learned a lot form this experience,” said Performing Arts Department Chair Dr. Dorothy Sobieski. “They met friends from many public and private schools and had an opportunity to work with directors who run successful orchestra programs in those schools. Even though it was a long day, and most of our students had to rush back to Ranney for their performance of Junie B. Jones, I am sure everyone felt it was a wonderful day and all worth it!”
