Academic Challenge Team Performs Well at the National Championships

The Academic Challenge team competed in Atlanta over Memorial Day Weekend at the National Championships. While the team just missed making the playoffs, the students performed well individually, especially given that most of the teams they played against in the field of 336 squads were from much larger schools.

Senior Jacob Egol ’19 finished #15 from a gathering of more than 1600 top students in the nation and earned an All-Star trophy. He averaged more than 80 points per game to reach such vaunted status. Jacob is the #2 scorer in Ranney history and headed for Duke University in the fall.

In the preliminary ACRONYM tournament on Friday night, a competition based upon knowledge of popular culture, Seth Marx ’20 finished #7 in the individual results.  He moved into the third-highest scorer slot in Ranney's history with Quiz Bowl.

Freshmen Lily Egol and Elizabeth Wright got their first taste of national competition and will be returning to the team in the fall.
