Seventh Grade Students Enjoy a Winter Wonderland
Mrs. Swiatocha has a tradition with the seventh grade, which is quickly becoming a favorite among students. Mrs. Swia, as she is known to her students, builds a Winter Wonderland in the Paulus Library with a video screen fire, twinkle lights, festive trees, blankets and pillows. There is a hot chocolate station with some cookies and then, based on a survey taken earlier in the year, tables set up with each of the student’s favorite book from when they were younger.
The purpose of the event is to remind students of their love of reading and that reading can be an enjoyable pastime. By letting them take the time to flip through their old favorites, and share it with classmates, it sparks the desire to read for fun rather than for work. The hope is that each student leaves with a book to read over break, just for enjoyment rather than a grade.
