Ranney Honored as 2019 Heavyweight Champion of the Students Hunger Competition

Ranney School was awarded the 2019 Heavyweight Champion of the Students Hunger Competition for collecting the most food and funds to benefit Fulfill and feed our neighbors in need. A group of student leaders were honored by the Federation of New Jersey Food Banks on January 30 at iPlay America.

To earn this distinction, the Ranney community donated an impressive 5,100 pounds of food to the Clients’ Pantry at Lunch Break in Red Bank. To help build momentum for our traditional food drive and raise awareness for the Students Change Hunger competition, a group of Upper School students led by Emily Zimmermann and Sandy Wilderotter created RHOPE (Ranney Helps Other People Eat). RHOPE conducted bake sales, organized a dodgeball tournament, held a pie to the face raffle, and hosted a movie night to raise funds. RHOPE raised a total of $1,165 to benefit Fulfill and breast cancer research.

The Ranney community's focus on Hunger this fall also included a school-wide student effort to prepare more than 16,000 meal packets to benefit Kids Against Hunger Philadelphia and The Philabundance BackPack program, which provides free, nutritious and easy-to-prepare supplemental meals for kids at Philadelphia-area schools.
