The Basie Awards were presented in a virtual ceremony on Tuesday, June 9, celebrating Monmouth County High School theater. Ranney School had eight nominations and two winners.
Every year, the Basie’s Education department forms an evaluation committee of theater lovers, performers and educators, who then attend and score upwards to 50 local productions. Buzz for the Basies kicks off in early May, with the announcement of nominees in 25 categories recognizing excellence in everything from acting and directing to set and costume design, choreography, lighting and orchestra. Several weeks later, a capacity virtually watched selections from area performances and cheer the nominees and winners.
Olivia Batista ’21 and Brielle Polizzano ’22 were both nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama, and Brielle Polizzano won.
Huck Martin ’23 and Ryan Biswal ’22 were both nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama, and Ryan Biswal took home the honors.
Mr. John Doyle was nominated in the categories of Stage Design, Direction, and Costume, while Destiny Kelly was nominated for lighting.
Additionally, Charlotte Clark ’20 was featured in the opening as well as Kiri Patient ’23 and Lily Egol ’22 in the closing musical number.
