History Bowl Team to Compete in Nationals

The Ranney History Bowl teams have completed completely online this year. The 2020 National Tournament, originally scheduled for April 2020 in Washington, DC, was postponed and instead held online in December 2020. Although Ranney graduates Seth Marx and Alex Senderov, both Class of 2020, could not compete, Ranney sent a JV team to the online Nationals consisting of Ryan Biswal '22, Lily Egol ‘22, Ankush Govil ‘23, Rishi Sondhi ‘22, and Brielle Polizzano '22. Egol and Biswal also competed in the US History Bee at Nationals, and Biswal continued the Ranney tradition of high scores in the National Sports & Entertainment Bee, coming in 9th place.

For the 2020-2021 season, tournament coordinators grouped all teams into four regional tournaments each season, leading to larger fields and increased competition. The Ranney JV Bowl team, almost completely composed of novices, did very well in both the Fall and Winter tournaments. In the Fall, the JV team (Ankush Govil '23, Liam Marriott '23, Riya Sikand '24, and Rosepreet Virdi '24), placed 1st in the lower bracket in the Northeast Region. The same team, joined by Alden Rose '23, placed into Quarterfinals in the Winter Tournament. The team will be competing at Nationals this May.

Members of the Ranney team have also done well in individual events. On the Varsity level, Rishi Sondhi will be competing at Nationals in the US History Bee, and Lily Egol in both the US History and World History Bees. Junior Varsity team members Ankush Govil and Alden Rose qualified for Nationals in the US History Bee, and Govil will also be competing in the World History Bee.
