Math Students Set New Records

Ranney School math students scored very high on the AMC Math Competition this year, as Mrs. Laura Pongrac, Math Department Chair, announced the high achievements. A total of 27 students competed in the AMC 10/12 A and B math competitions on February 4th and 10th.

This is the first time in Ranney's history of taking the AMC 12 that three students qualified for the AIME math competition, which will be held on March 10th and 18th. The AMC 12 qualifying score was 93 or better. These fine math students are looking to excel on the AIME in hopes to qualify to take the USA Mathematical Olympiad (USAMO) held on April 13th and 14th.

Xin Zheng ’22 (score of 135)
Yunxuan Tang ’22 (score of 112.5)
Siqi Liu ‘21-( score of 93)

Xin Zheng and Yunxuan Tang achieved a first as well, as the highest scoring juniors on the AMC 12 in Ranney’s history!

The following students took the AMC 10. The AMC 10 qualifying score was 102 or better to compete in the AIME math competition. The top three performers were:

Jared Gizersky ‘24  (score of 90)
Michael Guiliano ’23 (score of 67.5)
Wenjun Liu ’23 (score of 66)

Jared Gizersky accomplished a first, as he is the highest freshman score on the AMC 10 in Ranney’s history. He was only 12 points away from qualifying and has already started practicing for next year.

“The entire math department is so proud of these students' efforts and achievements!” said Mrs. Pongrac.
