Ranney Science Competition Club Earns Top Performances at Science Olympiad

While most of their peers were busy studying for midterms on Saturday, December 11, 14 members of the Science Competition Club participated in the Virtual Dick Smith Memorial Invitational Science Olympiad.

Layla Barthwal, Maya Barthwal, Emma Blumenkrantz, Nick Burniewicz, Priya Gupta, Marco Lau, Sarah Marty, Arshay Patel, Alden Rose, Cole Serrapica, Brandon Stobie, Anna Weiner, Lovleen Virdi, and Rosepreet Virdi competed against 74 other high school teams in events ranging from anatomy and physiology to rocks and minerals, working together in partnerships to answer questions and develop experimental methods to test hypotheses.

The team earned two top 10:  Alden Rose and Sarah Marty for 4th place in Cell Biology, and Layla Barthwal and Lovleen Virdi for 10th place in Anatomy and Physiology. 

The team also had three strong top-25 performances with 14th place in Astronomy (Alden Rose and Marco Lau); 17th place in Forensics (Anna Weiner and Rosepreet Vidi); and 23rd place in Ornithology (Cole Serrapica and Lovleen Virdi).

“Congratulations to these students and we look forward to improving upon these results in future tournaments this spring,” said advisor Dr. Roxanne Spencer.
