Elite Turf Fields at Ranney School Win STC’s Sustainability Award

Act Global was the recent recipient of the Synthetic Turf Council’s 2021 Sustainability Award, in recognition of research, innovation and commitment to utilize sustainable materials and processes to minimize negative impact on the natural environment. You can see a video describing the project here.

In 2020 Elite Turf USA partnered with world-renowned artificial grass company Act Global to bring the first, 100% recyclable turf system to the U.S. market at the prestigious Ranney School in Tinton Falls, NJ. Previously only available in Europe, the Elite Turf POWER System combines Act Global’s triple-fiber woven Xtreme Turf and a non-rubber infill to create a first-of-its-kind product that is recyclable from top to bottom while enhancing safety, playability and durability.

The unprecedented fields at Ranney were featured in an article in Coach & A.D. in March.

Made of ClearChoice Parley recycled plastic, the USDA approved plastic infill replaces the highly criticized, rubber tire crumb infill found in traditional turf systems. Elite Turf’s POWER System is not only better for athletes, it’s also better for the environment. Every POWER System installed aids in removing over 1 million bottles of plastic waste from the ocean.

Unlike other turf products on the market, Xtreme Turf is woven, which not only produces a turf that is much stronger & more durable than traditional tufted turf, it also yields fibers that are omni-directional for more consistent ball roll and reduced glare, enhancing playability and creating the ideal sports surface for a variety of sports including soccer, football, rugby, and lacrosse. Moreover, being woven in design, there’s no need for a polyurethane backing which allows for a 100% recyclability at end of life and more than 2x quicker drainage than other turf systems, leading to increased playable hours.

The synthetic turf council was founded in 2003 as a resource for current, credible, and independent research on the safety, playability and environmental impact of synthetic turf. The council also serves to provide technical guidance on the selection, installation, maintenance, and environmentally responsible disposal of synthetic turf. Membership includes builders, landscape architects, testing labs, maintenance providers, manufacturers, suppliers, installation contractors, infill material suppliers and other specialty service companies.
