US Robotics Teams Earn Impressive Showings at January Competitions

After a quiet season last year and a delayed start this year, Ranney Robotics back in full gear, as this month the Panthers competed in two tournaments.

On Saturday, January 15, teams 3815A (Alexander Ge, Alex Liu, Bowen Tang, Kris Wang, Steven Wang) and 3815B (Joey Arege, Brandon Klatsky, Charlie McCann, Vik Shah) competed in the VRC Tipping Point Rumble at Millburn High School. Ranney School’s teams faced off against 14 other competitors, playing in matches with randomized alliances. Team 3815A finished 2-3, ranked 13th. Team 3815B finished 3-2, ranked 7th. This was an exciting event for teams across the state, because for many it was the first "back to normal" event in two years.

On Saturday, January 22, teams 3815A, 3815B, and 3815C (Matteo Martino, Arshay Patel, Christian Virone) competed in the VRC Tipping Point Tournament at the Gloucester Township campus of Camden County Technical Schools. This was a large event, with 40 other teams competing.

Inspired by the previous weekend, team 3815A completely rebuilt their robot — doing in a week what many do in several months! Team 3815B tweaked their strategy to gain valuable points early in each match. Team 3815C discovered that their robot's ability to maneuver across the field through obstacles made them a coveted alliance partner.

Team 3815A finished 3-2, ranked 22nd. Team 3815B finished 4-1, ranked 6th. Team 3815C finished 2-3, ranked 33rd. Team 3815B made it to the quarterfinals, narrowly losing a tightly-contested match.

“We are looking forward to further tournaments this season,” said Assistant Robotics Coach Dr. Sam Brannon. “Congratulations to these students for being stellar ambassadors for Ranney over the last two weekends!”
