Ranney School Board Introduces New Trustee

The Ranney School Board of Trustees welcomed new trustee Brian Guzman (Charlie ’28) of Red Bank, NJ.

“We are thrilled to add Brian to the Board of Trustees,” said Board Chair Bob Chandler (Jillian ’21, Morgan ’22, Brooks ‘27.) “Brian is a dedicated and supportive individual who will add insightful perspective to our board. We are very fortunate to have an engaged and active board that has the school’s well-being as its top priority.”

Brian Guzman is a founder and Partner at Guzman Advisory Partners, LLP, a boutique law firm that focuses on the alternative investment industry with emphasis on the global legal and regulatory issues facing hedge funds, private equity funds, family offices, and asset managers. Prior to that, Mr. Guzman was a Partner of Indus Capital Partners, and prior to that, at the law firm of Seward & Kissel LLP. From 1994 to 2000, Mr. Guzman was a principal of an operating company that launched and operated several fast food restaurants in Manhattan, performing start up transactions and corporate duties. Mr. Guzman graduated from New York University Stern School of Business, and was magna cum laude from Brooklyn Law School.

Prior to joining Ranney in 2020, the Guzmans’ son Charlie ’28 attended Speyer Legacy School, an independent school in New York City, where Mr. Guzman served as trustee and Chair of the Advancement Committee and his wife, Susan, was president of the school’s parent association. Mr. Guzman has served on Ranney’s Development Committee and this year, is a member of the school’s Advancement Committee. Mrs. Guzman is a member of Ranney’s Development Committee, Panther Ball Committee, and Auction co-chair. The Guzmans have been generous supporters of the school since joining in 2020.

“I’m incredibly honored and excited about the opportunity to join the Board of Trustees at Ranney,” said Mr. Guzman. “Our experience in this very special community began in 2020 at one of the most uncertain and difficult periods in our lifetimes.  Ranney was an oasis of calm, focus and progress and it resonated with my entire family how unique what Ranney offered was – a demonstrable commitment to its students, faculty and staff and the qualities of perseverance and growth in all circumstances. Since then, Ranney has proved to be a welcoming and caring environment that serves to both nurture students and parents – a true team effort like none I’ve encountered before.  I am fully committed to the mission of Ranney and look forward to doing all I can to play a small role in its continued success in raising the educational and community standards where it has proven to be an unparalleled leader.”

The role of the Board of Trustees at independent schools, like Ranney, is to help set the strategic vision of the school and marshal resources to support this vision. As in other 501(c)(3) nonprofit schools, the Board approves and stewards the school's mission and also approves the annual budget and tuition changes. The school renews membership on its Board Committees on an annual basis. Committee members may be nominated to become Trustees of the Board after serving on one or more Board Committees for at least one year.
