Lower School Chorus Members Participate in Choral Academy at Rutgers University

Lower School Chorus members Danica Gartenberg ’31 and Aastha Chadha ’30 attended the Elementary, Middle School, and High School Choral Academy along with Lower School Choral Director Mrs. Geene at Rutgers University on Saturday, January 14 sponsored by the New Jersey Music Educators Association (NJMEA) and the NJ American Choral Directors Association (ACDA).

This inclusive and equitable event was made possible by the NJMEA Advocacy Grant with the goal of empowering students through a positive and meaningful ensemble experience. Choral students had the opportunity to work with Kason Jackson (Director of Vocal Music at Carteret HS) and Helen Kernizan (Choral Director at the Township of Ocean Intermediate School) and sing with other Elementary and Middle School students from Central New Jersey learning choral warm ups, solfege exercises, audition preparation, and the songs Ahrirang (Korean Folk Song) and Wade in the Water.

"It was a great experience for all of us," said Mrs. Geene.
