School Spirit in Full Swing this Fall

At the end of every ordinary Friday at Ranney high school, the last bus leaves campus at 3:45, the school's doors are locked, the soccer fields and gym are empty and the hallways are stranded, with the exception of a few students waiting for their rides. During Homecoming Weekend, however, Friday was not ordinary. Instead, it marked the start of the Fall Festival.
 
On homecoming night: the buses were vacant when leaving campus, the school doors were open, awaiting the arrival of more family and friends, the soccer field held the Ranney soccer teams practicing for their upcoming games, and the hallways were bustling with students ready to enjoy the night’s festivities. After the pep rally that afternoon, Ranney campus could not wait to experience the annual Homecoming night excitement.
 
Most other high schools’ definition of homecoming is a formal dance in their school’s cafeteria. Ranney, however, has a different, more original interpretation of homecoming: a night to recognize the amazing athletic ability and achievements of our high school soccer teams with a tailgate and celebratory night game “under the lights.”
 
By four o’clock, students were a swarm of excitement, adorned in their white spirit shirts and blue face paint- Ranney’s Panther Pride colors. The aroma of the Grill Club’s tailgate was in the air, surrounding the students as they awaited their homecooked cheeseburger or hot dog.
 
The speakers were blasting Ranney’s own jazz band as they led the audience in the Ranney fight song to encourage the Ranney Panthers. Throughout both the girls and boys soccer games, applause erupted from the stands, friends and family stood and cheered, rooting for our team.
 
Even though the game ended in a tie, the entire Ranney community left that night feeling a sense of unity and accomplishment for coming together to support their Ranney soccer teams.
