Performing Arts Department Announces Spring Musical

The Ranney Performing Arts Department is excited to announce the spring musical for the 2017-2018 season-Kismet by Robert Wright and George Forrest with adapted music of Alexander Borodin, based on the book by Charles Lederer and Luther Davis and on the play by Edward Knoblock.
 
Kismet will be directed by Mr. John Doyle, musical direction by Mrs. Lilly Torrente with pit ensemble preparation by Dr. Dorothy Sobieski and Mr. John Propper.
 
Kismet has enchanted audiences thanks to its exotic setting, appealing characters and wry sense of humor, not to mention a lush score that is adapted from the soaring melodies of Alexander Borodin.

The story: A series of well-navigated, sticky circumstances have landed the quick-witted Public Poet in opulence. His rolling in gold is cut short when his maneuvering comes full circle and he is forced in front of the Wazir, who is set to chop off The Poet's hand. As luck would have it, a last-minute realization stays the Wazir's hand and saves The Poet's. The wild ride continues as The Poet's daughter falls in love with the handsome Caliph, The Poet falls in love with one of the Wazir's concubines and everyone falls in love with the whirlwind of occurrences that could only happen on an Arabian Night!
