Ranney Hosts Debate Tournament

On Saturday, March 10, Ranney hosted the final Jersey Shore Debate League tournament for the 2017-2018 season.  Five schools -- Ranney, Cedar Hill Prep, Barkalow, Rumson Country Day, and Forrestdale -- and over sixty students participated in the all-day event.
 
The topics: End Daylight Savings Time; Libraries are Obsolete; The US Should send astronauts back to the moon; Elon Musk's Hyperloop tunnel between NY and DC should not be built.
 
Debaters for Ranney were sixth graders Rosepreet Virdi and Lindsey Berliner, seventh graders Julia Yanney and Rowan Johnson, and eighth grader Tucker Scott.

The team of Rowan Johnson and Tucker Scott placed fourth in number of team wins, while Lindsey Berliner won Best Speaker for Ranney with 302 points. 
 
The JSDL is part of the Middle School Public Debate Program.
