Ranney Students Awarded AMC Honors
This past February, Ranney School participated in one of the oldest Mathematical Competitions, the AMC, given by the Mathematical Association of America.
In 1950, the first mathematical contest, sponsored by the NY Metropolitan Section of the Mathematics Association of America took place. It was given to 200 schools to around 6,000 students in the NY area. Today the competition has grown to over 350,000 students participating annually, in over 6,000 schools.
The AMC 12 is a 25 questions, 75 minute multiple choice exam designed to promote the development and enhancement of problem solving skills. It covers mathematical curriculum including trigonometry, adv. Algebra and adv. Geometry.
At the Upper School Town Hall on Wednesday, May 30, Mrs. Pongrac honored the award winners from Ranney:
Tied for 3rd place: Charlotte Wang and Alan Li
2nd place: Steven Si
1st place: Yizhou Shan
