Sailing Team Wins the Atlantic Coast Championship

In the pinnacle regatta of the fall season, 20 teams are selected from all along the Eastern Seaboard as well as Chicago and New Orleans.  Each of the 20 teams had to earn their spot to compete in the Atlantic Coast Championship by finishing among the leaders in their regional divisions.  Ranney earned its birth by winning the New Jersey Fall Fleet Championship and then winning the Mid-Atlantic States Fall Fleet Championship.

All 20 teams traveled to Annapolis to sail at the Naval Academy.  With its rich history in sailing as it houses the College Sailing Hall of Fame, the Ranney team took notice of the plaques on the wall especially those of their All-American Coach, Clay Johnson.  With inspiration in hand, they took to the water in extremely challenging conditions and never looked back.

On Saturday, the wind climbed to over 30 knots which did not phase the deep and talented Ranney team who quickly jumped out to a commanding lead.  On Sunday, the wind speed was only 5-8 knots but the change in wind speed had no effect on the Ranney team who continued to dominate the field culminating in a commanding victory.  Congratulations to coach Clay Johnson and sailors Luke Arnone, Blake Epstein, Cameron Giblin, Matthew Hamelsky, William Beyer, John Cocozza and Brooke Schmelz on a historic fall season.
