Chris Autino '19 Selected as News12 Scholar-Athlete of the Week

Chris Autino '19 was selected as the News12 Scholar-Athlete of the Week, featured on last night's broadcast.

Chris, who has been playing football with Mater Dei Prep as part of a co-op this season, will take on Red Bank Catholic with the Seraphs for the Non-Public Group 3 State Championship on Saturday, November 24th at 4:05 PM at MetLife Stadium. Details can be found here. The Ranney Community is invited to support Chris in his quest for a state title. Here is a video interview with Chris from earlier in year, during pre-season training with the Seraphs.

Chris has also been a starter on the boys' basketball team at Ranney. In the first round of the NJSIAA Non-Public B South Tournament on Feb. 27, he recorded a double-double with 16 points, adding 11 rebounds and a team-high four steals, helping the Panthers defeat Wardlaw-Hartridge to advance in the postseason.  Chris had a season-high 18 points in a win against Keyport on January 9, adding six rebounds, two steals and two blocks. Last season, Ranney went 28-5 overall, including an undefeated 14-0 mark in conference play, en route to winning the Shore Conference Championship, the NJSIAA South Jersey Non Public "B" State Sectional title and becoming NJSIAA Non Public "B" State Finalists.

"Chris is everything a coach wants in a player," said Assistant Boys' Basketball Coach John Tierney. "He always puts the team first, works hard in practice and is high-achieving in the classroom. He’s the definition of a student athlete."

Last year, Chris was chosen as the winner of the 11th grade Excellence in Citizenship award winner. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics Honor Society, Science National Honor Society and La Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica.

Chris has been involved in many community service efforts including Big Brothers Big Sisters, Cops and Scholars, Panther Cubs, and Schroth School for Disabled Students. Chris demonstrated his initiative for fundraising by being a Team Leader for the Making Strides Breast Cancer Walk. Chris also showed impressive leadership by creating Theresa’s Throwdown, a three-on-three benefit basketball tournament in memory of his mother at Victory Park in Rumson on Aug. 19 last year, raising money for Joan Dancy and PALS (People with ALS) Foundation, which helps families in Monmouth and Ocean County who are fighting the disease. He also created a team that raised money for The Valentine Plunge at Main Beach in Manasquan, collecting donations for ALS patients. For the holidays last year, he dressed up like Santa Claus for the Beneath the Surface Santa's Brunch. Over 50 adults and their children from various local organizations (serving families with invisible illnesses) gathered and Chris welcomed the children and gave out gifts that were donated by Toys R Us.
