Class of 2024 School Profile

Class of 2024 Profile
The Ranney College Counseling team has been some of the most supportive people, and the individualized attention I received was a huge reason why my parents chose to send me here. Not only have I felt supported by Ms. Greth, but also the entire College Counseling team. Sometimes I would walk into the office with a question, and when Ms. Greth wasn't available to meet with me, one of the other college counselors would help me through whatever it was that I needed. I've found College Counseling to truly be one of Ranney's greatest strengths.

The College Process

  • Our Philosophy and Goals

The College Counseling office’s approach to the college process embodies Ranney’s commitment to know and value every student. Our experienced team of college counselors, who bring extensive college application review experience to the process, help students identify colleges that meet their academic, extracurricular, and personal interests and needs. Our college counselors are devoted to helping each student find the best “fit” schools where they will thrive, collaborating with parents and guardians and acting as advocates throughout the process.

  • Overview of the Process

At Ranney, college planning and finding the right-fit school for each student begins as early as the eighth grade, when students and their families meet with college counselors to discuss predictive scheduling and each student’s goals and aspirations for Upper School. Students are assigned a college counselor at the end of ninth grade. As students move into their sophomore and junior years, students and their parents are invited to attend college fairs and more in-depth workshops on the college process. They are advised on courses, schedules, extracurricular activities, summer plans, and standardized test preparation. Through personalized, in-depth counseling, students are able to begin building their unique college profiles early in their Upper School careers. Counselors work closely with Juniors and Seniors, and their families, throughout the process coordinating and advising on college visits, essays, teacher recommendations, applications, interviews, and college selection.

  • Other Program Highlights

    • We lead a regional multi-day visit to select colleges and universities each year helping students envision themselves in different college settings.
    • We offer workshops, bootcamps, and panels for students and parents on a range of topics including test prep, financial aid, and the application process.
    • More than 100 college and university representatives visit Ranney every year and we advise students on how to make the most of these visits.
    • Our young alumni participate in panels for students and parents sharing strategies for a successful transition to college .
    • We provide guidance on college recruitment for athletics, as well as visual arts submissions, and performing arts auditions.
