Abby Boyan Signs National Letter of Intent for Georgia Women’s Soccer
On Wednesday, February 7, Ranney senior Abby Boyan signed her National Letter of Intent to play women’s soccer at the University of Georgia.
Boyan wrapped up her senior season at Ranney with All-Non-Public First Team honors by NJ Advance Media. The forward scored over 100 career goals as a Panther, including a hat trick that she recorded for No. 13 seed Ranney in an upset 6-1 victory against fourth-seeded Calvary Christian in the first round of the South, Non-Public B playoffs this season.
“I had a great four years playing soccer for Ranney,” said Abby. “I learned a lot through my coaches and made some great memories with my teammates. I’m looking forward to playing college soccer for UGA”
The Georgia commit was second in the conference with 35 goals. In the coaches' selection, Boyan was named All-Class B Central as a midfielder. Boyan was honored on the Shore Conference All-Division Team in ninth grade and 11th grade. She was named the team’s MVP all four years and served as captain for three years. She led the Panthers in goals each of the last four years and has led in assists for three years. Boyan also won two state championships with the Players Development Academy.
“Not many high school players reach 100 goals and she definitely worked hard for it,” said Ranney School Head Coach Sheree Dillard. “She is a great player with a bright future in the soccer world and it has been an honor to coach her and watch her impressive work ethic and dedication.”
The 2017 Georgia women’s soccer team completed the ninth-toughest schedule in the NCAA with a 4-12-2 overall record. The Bulldogs lost 11 players to graduation.
“Abby Boyan is our first female athlete to sign an NLI with a Power 5 Conference School,” said Ranney School Athletic Director Natalie Gorman. “We are so proud to have a Ranney ‘lifer,’ who has been in our Ranney School since kindergarten, achieve such a great honor both athletically and academically. We look forward to watching many of Abby's games on TV as her schedule will be broadcast nationally on the SEC network. Congratulations to Abby, her family, coaches, and teachers, on this historic day at Ranney School."
Boyan is a four-year varsity starter and letter winner in both soccer and swimming, and has started on the lacrosse team for the last two years.
