Ranney School Enhances Campus Security and Dedicates Guardhouse

On Monday, September 11, Ranney School dedicated the Lt. Timothy Coyne Guardhouse at the entrance to the school’s campus. Ranney regularly evaluates and adjusts its safety and security systems; the guardhouse and renovated entry complex are strategic investments in the school’s multi-layered approach to campus safety. The guardhouse, with 360-degree views, will serve as the command center for the school’s security staff who are all retired law enforcement officers.

The project was made possible through the generous philanthropic support of Ranney School alumna and parent Hilary Kramer ’82 who wanted to honor the memory of her late husband. “Tim loved Ranney and I feel that Ranney has given me so much as an alum and a parent.,” said Ms. Kramer. “As a sergeant with the NYPD in Lower Manhattan and later a lieutenant, Tim spent an extraordinary amount of time at the World Trade Center site following 9/11. He exemplified service and leadership and I can think of no better way to honor his life than to support the school that our children love.”

Board Trustee and Ranney alumnus Dr. Niraj Govil ’85, who served as a doctor at the World Trade Center site, shared reflections on community and the value of service at the dedication ceremony.

“We are grateful that Hilary and her family chose to celebrate Tim’s life in this way,” said Head of School Dr. John Griffith. “The new entrance complex and guardhouse help us create a secure and welcoming entrance to our beautiful 60-acre campus and it is a fitting tribute to Tim who cared deeply about our community.”

In addition to the Kramer-Coyne family, the project was made possible by generous support from Ranney parents Marc Lubin and Aysun Sar and Dr. Daniel Stobie and Mr. Charles Dorsett, Ranney grandparents Mike and Maryanne Cohen, along with community support of the Ranney Fund.
