Panther Athletes Wrap-Up Fall Season With Successes

Fall Season Sports Wrap-Up at Ranney
This fall marked a monumental sports season for the Ranney School Panthers, whose Middle and Upper School athletic programs kicked off what promises to be a highly successful 2011-12 athletic year complete with championship titles, perfect records and more.

Ranney’s varsity girls’ tennis team not only earned its fourth straight NJSIAA Non-Public ‘B’ South Sectional Championship at Moorestown Friends School on October 17, but it also qualified to compete in its first-ever Shore Conference Tournament this fall. Ranney’s athletic program was granted general membership within the state’s renowned Shore Conference on April 29, 2011. Also on the courts, Ranney’s Middle School girls’ tennis team managed to record a perfect 6-0 season over opponents from Princeton Day, Stuart and Rutgers Prep.

Other undefeated seasons came from the Middle School girls’ soccer team, which not only went 13-0 (the most consecutive wins had by any Middle School girls’ soccer team in Ranney history), but also joined the Middle School boys’ soccer team as both earned victories over Lavallette Elementary during the 2011 Central Jersey Athletic League (CJAL) Championships. Meanwhile, finishing the regular season with wins across the board was Ranney’s Middle School cross country team. Individual triumphs were seen by Audra Smires ’16 and Zachary DiGiaro ’16 as well, as each placed second at the annual Gill St. Bernard’s Great Pumpkin Run and led their teams to second and fifth place finishes overall.

In what proved an important milestone for Ranney School’s athletic program and its scholar-athletes, the varsity field hockey team qualified for its first NJSIAA North 2 Group 1 Tournament at St. Rose High School on October 28, and similar to the varsity girls’ tennis team, also qualified to compete in the Shore Conference Tournament this season.

With so many achievements seen this fall, it is evident that the Ranney School athletic program is already well on its way to success in the highly anticipated Shore Conference. This membership, along with numerous championships and perfect seasons, is not only a true testament of steadfast improvement in the program, but also of the dedication displayed in scholar-athletes and coaches.

Middle School Soccer Teams Named 2011 CJAL Champions
Following a very special Pep Rally during the Middle School’s Physical Education period on Wednesday, November 2, 2011, Ranney’s male and female Middle School soccer teams headed to Toms River, New Jersey where each defeated Lavallette Elementary School in a Central Jersey Athletic League (CJAL) Championship game later that evening.

Beneath the bright lights of Bey Lea Park, the undefeated Lady Panthers of Ranney triumphed 4-1 over Lavallette. The team’s first goal came from eighth grade scholar-athlete Michelle Krameisen who scored off an assist from Abigail Boyan ’18 in the first half. While Lavallette answered with a corner kick and goal of its own, Athena Dookie’16 recovered the lead for Ranney as she scored one more goal off an assist by Michelle Krameisen just before halftime.

Up 2-1 at the start of the second half, the Lady Panthers saw two more goals — this time from Abigail Boyan and Michelle Krameisen. Strong defense from Ranney Athletes Grace Hofferber ’17, Erin Kennedy ’16, Madison Gerhard ’18 and Jamie Shamilian ’16 held a tough opponent from Lavallette to one point as Goalkeeper Elizabeth Paasche ’16 recorded 13 saves for Ranney in the win.

Next to take the field was Ranney’s Middle School boys’ soccer team, which defeated Lavallette 2-1 during its CJAL Championship game. Scoring the first goal of the game was Ranney’s own Christian Pacifico ’18 who gave the Panthers a 1-0 advantage midway through the first half. His was followed by another goal from James Wolfe ’17 —his first of the season—giving the team a 2-0 cushion at the start of the second half. While Goalie Noah Ayers ’17 stopped seven shots for the Panthers between the posts, teammates James Geraghty ’16, Karl Brand ’16, Nelson Chan ’16, Mohammed Chater ’16, Philip Cantave ’16 and Daniel Blumenkrantz ’16 also contributed solid minutes in the monumental victory as this game marked their last time stepping onto a soccer field at the Middle School level.

Congratulations to the 2011 CJAL Champions and to each male and female Middle School soccer player on a tremendous season. While the boys finished with an amazing record of 10-1-2, the girls made Ranney Middle School soccer history as it was Ranney's first Middle School girls’ soccer team to go 13 games without a loss.
