Girls' Varsity Tennis Reaches NJSIAA Quarterfinals

The Ranney varsity girls' tennis team will host the quarterfinals of the NJSIAA Non-Public, South Jersey Tournament on Tuesday, October 6 at 3 p.m.

As the No. 1 seed, the Panthers earned a bye in the play-in round before defeating No. 16 seed Wildwood Catholic, 5-0.

Ranney will host the quarterfinals against No. 8 Moorestown Friends to determine who advances to the semifinal round on October 8.

The full bracket can be seen here.

Ranney was chosen as a favorite in its pre-tournament write up, which can be found here.

The nj.com article writes about Ranney:

Ranney takes the top-seeded spot in this season’s sectional tournament. The program last won the Non-Public, South Jersey section title in 2017. In that same season, Ranney fell to Newark Academy in the Group Tournament final.

Ranney is led by freshman Charlotte Mackay at first singles. After a slow start to her inaugural season, Mackay has won seven-straight and taken wins against Manasquan, Red Bank Regional, Wardlaw-Hartridge and Trinity Hall.

Aviva Kaminsky and Jessie Yuan each back up Mackay at second singles and third singles respectively. The junior and senior duo have the experience to back up Ranney and help them deep into the state tournament.

The doubles tandem is Mikayla Rizkalla/Hannah Brenman and Katherine Baxter/Karina Bhatnagar have each had their success for Ranney this season. The duos have often swapped players throughout the season, but the state tournament will likely see these pairings.

Trinity Hall gives Ranney its biggest competition. Ranney defeated Trinity Hall last season in the Non-Public, South Jersey quarterfinals. Trinity Hall has gradually improved over the past few seasons and this could be the season it gets past Ranney.

Good luck to the team:
