Scottie Lewis to Receive Kerwin Award

Ranney School is proud to share that sophomore George “Scottie” Lewis is the 2017 recipient of the Margaret M. and James J. Kerwin Award, along with Dara Mabrey, a junior at Manasquan. The prestigious awards are given annually to two outstanding basketball players across the Jersey Shore in honor of local sports legends.

“Lewis is a great all-around player. He is an excellent shooter, outstanding passer, fights for rebounds, blocks shots and is a fine defensive player,” said Mrs. Margaret "Peggy" Kerwin Fleischer in the awards news release. “Perhaps most importantly, Scottie has extraordinary court leadership. He’s an unselfish player who involves everyone on the court. He has used his athletic talent to bring out the best in each of his teammates as Ranney has rolled through a tough schedule moving toward the state tournament.”

Scottie is the first player from Ranney to win the award, which is given in honor of Margaret, a pioneer basketball player at St. Vincent's Academy, and James, a legendary sportsman, Athletic Director at Croydon Hall Academy, and member of Headmasters Athletic League.

Says Ranney Varsity Boys’ Basketball Head Coach Tahj Holden, “I’m really proud that Scottie’s hard work and dedication on and off the court is being recognized in winning the Kerwin Award. It’s an amazing accomplishment to have won it this year with all of the great talent in the Shore Conference.”

A plaque and trophy will be presented to Scottie at the state tournament being held on campus next Wednesday, March 1.
