Lower School Students Play at CJMEA Honors Chorus Festival
On Saturday, May 11, seven members of the Ranney Lower School Chorus participated in the CJMEA (Central Jersey Music Educators Association) Honors Chorus Festival with Mrs. Geene at Monroe Township Middle School.
Students must be nominated for this opportunity to sing in a day long festival for Elementary and Intermediate students; they prepared the music prior to the festival on their own and in after school practice sessions.
Sophia Bakr '31, Liam Braniff '32, Aanya Chadha '32, Suzanne Duarte '32, Danica Gartenberg '31, Emerson Kurdi '31, and Amaira Saxena '31 spent the day singing, rehearsing, and learning with other students and chorus directors from schools throughout central New Jersey. The guest conductor was Ariel Antoinette Alvarado, director of the Wilmington Children’s Chorus in Delaware.
The Treble Chorus (grades 4-6) of 130 students performed Tongo, Loch Lomond, Oh Mama Bakudala, Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho, and Let All the World Hear Music in the afternoon concert for families. They combined with the Mixed Chorus (grades 6-8) to sing A Path to Each Other. Mrs. Geene accompanied the Treble Chorus and Mixed Chorus on flute and led sectional rehearsals.
"This was a wonderful opportunity for our chorus students and we enjoyed spending the day together singing," said Mrs. Geene.
