Ranney Upper School Students Perform With The All-Shore Jazz Band
On Saturday, February 8 Jaren Nawy '21 and Sam Novotny '20 performed with the All-Shore Jazz Band at Historic Long Branch Auditorium. Both students auditioned and won the highest seat in the festival for their respective instruments, Jaren on piano, and Sam on electric bass. Jazz Band students from all high schools in Monmouth County are eligible to audition for the festival each year.
Jaren and Sam performed with Mr. Ralph Bowen who is on faculty at Rutgers University Jazz Studies Department and is an in-demand jazz artist. He was the featured soloist for the event. The ensemble performed pieces composed by John Coltrane, Clifford Brown, and Thelonious Monk among others.
Ranney School's own Mr. John Propper was the conductor of the 2020 All-Shore Jazz Band. "I was thrilled to share the stage with Sam, Jaren, Mr. Bowen, and the other musicians. The level of energy and musicianship present on the stage created something very special. I will never forget our performance."
