School-Wide Day of Service

One of the elements of the Ranney School Strategic Vision that we strive to instill in our students is Global Citizenship, and within that value, a passion for service and engagement with the community around them.  
On Friday, April 1, 2022, Ranney held its second Panthers with a Purpose service project this year. Working in coordination with Clean Ocean Action (COA), grades 5-12 went to beaches in Sea Bright for a Community Clean-Up, while our younger grades participated in on-campus activities.  

In preparation for the event, COA visited campus several times to speak to each division on relevant topics such as understanding local waterways and the impact debris can have on our ecosystem, and how they feed into the ocean, and how the data collected at the state-wide beach sweeps translates to inform and reform local and state laws.

In each division, student change collections were held to contribute a “Sea of Change” to Clean Ocean Action. The funds collected will support COA’s work as a leading national and regional voice working to protect waterways using science, law, research, education, and citizen action.

On Friday, the younger students that remained on campus participated in an assembly listening to the book We Are Water Protectors and learning to be earth stewards and water protectors. Those students also created postcards encouraging their hometowns to enforce the statewide single-use plastic waste reduction law, effective May 4, 2022.

There were water connections in the curriculum throughout the week, with other activities such as creating posters to give to businesses in their towns, making water protector crowns or badges, and monitoring campus to clean up litter.
