Debate Team Reaches Quarterfinals in NJSDL State Tournament

Congratulations Max Kelner '25 and Lucas Yanney '25 for reaching the quarterfinal round of the NJSDL State Tournament in Parliamentary Debate over Spring Break.

The team of Kelner/Yanney, along with additional two-person Parli team, Connoly Chavez '25 and Jack Pentony '25, competed at Hunterdon Central Regional High School both March 15 and March 16 in the statewide tournament against teams from nearly 30 New Jersey schools.

In Parliamentary Debate, competitors do not know their topic or "side" until thirty minutes prior to the debate. They must collaborate on points and anticipate the opposing side's contentions during this limited prep time. The most "improvisational" of the debate categories, Chavez/Pentony fared well with two wins of five rounds, while Kelner/Yanney earned their Quarterfinal position due to their four wins in five rounds over the two day competition. The Debate team, having a great season, is coached by History teacher Peter Reynolds-Wright.
