Nayyar Founds First Satellite Chapter of GALS

Girls Advocating Leadership and Strength (GALS) is an organization headquartered in the NYC Metropolitan Area. Its mission is to inspire the next era of young female executives. It was created by two high school students, Sheryl Chen and Lily Zhang, to help expand the resources available to young, determined female students.

Himani Nayyar is the founder of the first satellite chapter of GALS. This year, she created a new lunch “speakers series.” This series is a mentoring program that will consist of monthly lunches listening to the journeys of strong, successful women. The advice gained from these speakers will not only inspire young women, but help guide them in the future as well.

The first speaker was Dr. Erin Wilkus, Ranney class of 2006. Dr. Wilkus has her Doctorate in International Agricultural Development from the School of Ecology from the University of California, Davis. She currently works for the Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI) at the University of Queensland , Australia. Her project there is to research Sustainable Intensification of Maize-Legume Farming Systems for Food Security in Eastern and Southern Africa.

Future speakers will be two alumni: biochemist Dr. Katie O’Neil and cardiologist Dr. Sheila Sahni.
