Student-Athlete Spotlight: Ryan Pongrac

This is your first year at Ranney, how have you adjusted to the new school?
I have to say my initial adjustment to the schedule at Ranney School was a little difficult. I was used to starting school around 7:15am and finishing at 12:15pm. I would then head to the course for lunch, practice and competitions.  The Ranney Community, including administration, faculty and students were very welcoming. I mirrored a student in the beginning and my advisory group was beneficial in the first initial steps at Ranney. Also my previous experience of attending a boarding school in South Carolina for three years makes you prepared to embrace change and be confident.

When did you start your golf career?  How often do you play golf?
My golf interest and lessons started when I was six years old.  I had the early fortune to train with some of the best PGA Professionals, which gave me a strong foundation anchored on exceptional fundamentals and routine.  I try to practice and play everyday if possible.

Where are you going to college and what made you choose that school and golf program?
I signed early to play Division I Golf for University of Delaware.  Delaware stood out to me first because of the coaching staff. The coaches are accomplished Tour Golf Professionals who have a clear understanding of the game and coaching the development of players.  The Blue Hens are multiple Division Champions and have a high commitment to academics. Delaware plays in a very competitive conference, Colonial Athletic Association and has access to six very unique golf courses to play on, which will help shape my thinking for upcoming tournaments.

What are your goals as a college golfer?
My initial goals at University of Delaware are to earn Freshman CAA Player of the Year, continue my development as a golfer, bring leadership and inspiration to the team, and make the Dean’s List.

Do you want to be a pro golfer?
I believe my experience and training at the University of Delaware will continue to shape my game and goals of taking the game to the PGA level.

What is your favorite subject at Ranney?
My favorite subjects at Ranney School are Calculus and Chemistry. I am forever grateful for the encouragement and commitment that my teachers at Ranney embraced me with.

What will be your major in college?
Business Administration undeclared

Fun Facts:  Favorite food: Sushi, Least favorite food: Shepard’s Pie.  If I could be an animal I would select being a Lion. If I could have a superpower, it would be the ability to fly.
