Upper School (Grades 9-11)

We will begin accepting Upper School applications for the 2017-2018 school year beginning September 1, 2016
Students will receive an admissions decision on a rolling basis.

All Upper School applicants (Ninth-Twelfth Grade) will need to submit the following to Ranney School:
Admission Requirements & Forms

1. Online Application: To begin the admissions process, you will need to go to the SSATB website and create an account: Standard Application Online. Once you have completed the Student Bio section and paid your application fee, you will be able to add Ranney School to your profile.  You will then complete the following sections:
  • Parent Questionnaire: This step will provide an opportunity for your parent/guardian to express their thoughts about your personal, academic, and social strengths and characteristics. This should be completed and signed electronically by your parent/guardian for submission.
  • Applicant Questionnaire and Personal Statement:You will be asked to complete a questionnaire and brief essay.  NOTE: Drafts cannot be saved through the SSATB online application, so please complete these steps in a Word Document before copying the information into the application.
  • Teacher Recommendations (two required): This step will ask for the names and email addresses of two of your current academic teachers.  Your teachers will receive an email with a link for their recommendation forms, which will then be sent directly to our office via online submission.
  • School Report and Transcript Form: We require a current grade report and two preceding years of academic achievement records for our applicants.  Once you supply an email address and the name of your school’s registrar, they will receive the request to upload your transcript online.

2. Testing Requirements: All Upper School applicants are required to take the SSAT. Applicants may register for the test directly from their SSAT Student Access Portal. The Ranney School SSAT Code is 6002. Students may submit PSAT, SAT or ACT scores in place of SSAT scores.

Students interested in Fall 2016 that have not taken the SSAT may opt to take an SSAT Flex Test administered at Ranney School in place of a scheduled SSAT exam. Flex Tests are generally administered on Fridays from 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Please contact our office for more details.

3.  A Scheduled Panther Visit: Upper School applicants are required to schedule a campus visit date with the Admissions Office. Students will spend a full day on campus (8:15 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.) for this Panther Visit, which includes a student interview with a member of the Upper School administration, shadowing classes with a current Ranney student, and attending lunch. Additionally, parent interviews are held with a member of the Admissions Team during this time. Panther Visits begin in October and continue through early January. There is limited availability for “Panther Visit” dates prior to the January 15th deadline, thus interested students are strongly encouraged to apply as soon as possible.

Mid-Year Transfers:
Mid-year transfer students are accepted on a case-by-case basis through grade 11; however, admission is limited and dependent upon space availability, as well as the student’s academic qualifications and record of conduct.

Homeschooled Applicants:
Ranney School welcomes the opportunity to review the unique profile offered by homeschooled applicants. In addition to the standard admissions process, please submit the following information to assist the Admissions Committee:
  • Pedagogical description: What philosophy and/or state law guides your approach to homeschooling? How long has the applicant been homeschooled? Are there other siblings or students involved?
  • Curriculum reference: What texts and resources have been used last year and this year in the applicant's homeschooling experience? Please provide syllabi or course descriptions, if available. Also include grades for any classes being taken at other academic institutions. Please submit official documentation and grades relating to any online courses.
  • Additional letters of recommendation, other than the homeschool teacher, who have knowledge of the applicant’s academic ability.
