Members of the Speech Team (Coach Leslie Patient) and Debate Team (Coach Peter Reynold-Wright) earned several accolades at their first tournament this weekend held at Randolph High School, as well as an Online Speech Festival sponsored by the league with asynchronous judging last week.
Lily Aspen ’23 won Fourth Place in Original Poetry for the NJSDL November Online Speech Festival with her poem "Imagine An Otherwise".
Rowan Johnson ’23 and Lindsay Berliner ’24 won Second Overall in the Randolph Tournament in Parliamentary Debate, having won all their early rounds. This is the highest position a Ranney debate team has earned in the league!
Speech competitors also earned Final Round spots for the Randolph Tournament with Anna Weiner ‘23, competing in Original Oratory, earning Fifth Place overall. Brandon Stobie ’23 and Justin Atnes ’24 competed in Duo Interpretation and earned Sixth Place overall.  Additionally, the Upper School Team welcomed Middle School competitor, Avi Rao ’27 to compete in Declamation and the Randolph Tournament Hosts were so impressed with his strong showing, even earning a First place ranking in one of his rounds, that he earned a special "Turkey" award.
With a large showing of seventeen competitors Speech was also represented at the tournament by Grace Silbert ’23 in Dramatic Interpretation and William Vibert ’25 in Impromptu Speaking.
Parliamentary Debate competitors included Joseph Sciortino ’24 and Riya Sikand ‘24 (winning two of their rounds), as well as Novice pair Lawrence Royce ’26 and Luke Greco ‘26.
