Ranney Wins Major Tournament Titles at Speech & Debate
Congratulations to the Ranney Upper School Speech and Debate team on an incredible showing at the Hunterdon Central Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 7. Ranney brought home major tournament trophies in three categories: Anna Weiner ’23 earned Second Place overall for Original Oratory, Brandon Stobie ’23 and Justin Atnes ’24 proved victorious, placing First overall in Duo Interpretation, while Rowan Johnson ’23 and Lindsay Berliner ’24 were First Place champions in Parliamentary Debate. Parsvi Shah ’24 and Isabella Chagares ’25 also made it to the final rounds in Parliamentary.
“With 18 students competing in two different debate categories, and over five Speech categories, Ranney's performance at these National Speech and Debate Association league tournaments shows that while in comparison to some of the enormously large competitor schools, Ranney is a force to contend with,” said advisor Ms. Leslie Patient.
The team has a packed month with two more tournaments - in Freehold Township on Jan. 14 and Ridge High School on Jan. 28.
