On Saturday, April 22, the Central New Jersey Music Educators Association held the Elementary Honors Band Festival at Hillsborough High School and The Elementary Honors Orchestra Festival at Piscataway High School. Both festivals were open to highly motivated music students from grades four through six, and 13 Ranney Students participated in the events.
All students who participated in the event had to complete an audition for their ensemble director to be recommended, which consisted of scales, sight-reading, and a prepared piece. These students were then accepted by CJMEA and then sorted into their respective ensembles. The orchestra had two complete ensembles designated by red and gold, while the band had four complete ensembles designated by red, white, silver, and blue.
These students have worked hard to prepare themselves to be part of these significant festivals. The CJMEA Elementary Honors Ensembles allow highly motivated students to be matched with other students who are learning music at an elevated level to rehearse three pieces and perform them on the same day in a complete ensemble conducted by some of the top music educators in the state of New Jersey. The students received the music in advance but rehearsed and performed three challenging pieces in one day. The day started at 9 AM and finished in the late afternoon after their ensemble had rehearsed and performed their assigned music.
We are so proud that these students got a chance to represent Ranny School among the other top musicians in the area. Their knowledge and experience gained during this experience will promote Ranney School's strong culture of performing arts, which are developed and nurtured as part of a continuum through all of our lower, middle, and upper divisions.
