Ranney School dedicates Cantin Family Finance Lab

On Thursday, September 28, Ranney School dedicated the Cantin Family Finance Lab. The new lab features a dozen Bloomberg Terminals, the same technology used by financial institutions and corporations worldwide, as well as interactive display panels and a real-time digital stock ticker, bringing the trading floor to Ranney’s campus.

Ranney is one of only a handful of independent schools providing students access to Bloomberg Terminals and the range of learning opportunities they offer. The lab will be home to a new finance course, which introduces students to the principles of finance and the world of Wall Street through case studies and real-world examples. Students will have the opportunity to attain certifications offered by Bloomberg in market concepts, ESG (environmental, social, and governance investing), and finance fundamentals. The terminals will also be an asset to other classes including economics, government, computer science, and mathematics.

The project was made possible through the generous philanthropic support of Ranney School parent David Cantin. “I am honored to help Ranney introduce this exciting technology to students. The lessons that will be learned in this lab will be priceless and essential for our children as they go out into the world today.”

“Many members of our alumni and parent community work in the fields of finance, banking, portfolio management, and entrepreneurship,” said Head of School, Dr. John Griffith. “The new lab gives us the opportunity to bring these experts to campus to engage with our students as they explore college majors and consider career paths. The lab will be a great resource for student clubs, capstone projects, our immersive Maymester program, and workshops. The learning and enrichment opportunities for our students and alumni are truly incredible.”

In addition to the Cantin family, the project was made possible by generous support from Ranney parents Colin and Sarah Bradley, Philip and Celia Celler, Martin and Ellen Chavez, and Gary and Jo Chropuvka, along with community support of the Ranney Fund.
