Annabel Sparano '26 Receives "Be the Change" Scholarship

Annabel Sparano '26 was named the recipient of the 2024 National “Be the Change” School-Based Health Alliance Scholarship. The Scholarship allows her to accept a leadership position within the organization’s Youth Training Program at this year’s summer Conference in Washington D.C.

There were a limited number of national scholarships available. The organization created this Conference as an opportunity for youth to connect with like-minded peers from around the country who are passionate leaders of change in their schools and communities.
 
"Over the prior two years I have worked with a variety of community organizations, most recently focusing on healthcare objectives," said Annabel. "I have several current projects, and some are with teams that have secured federal and state grant-funding to address healthcare inequities in the under-represented minority groups of Monmouth and Ocean Counties."

"Last year, I was the youngest speaker to host a seminar through Monmouth County’s award-winning program 'Let’s Talk About Race,' and received a scholarship through the YMCA of Greater Monmouth County. This year, I am primarily focused on educating children and the young adult communities on ways to collectively improve healthcare access, healthcare outcomes, and leadership direction within healthcare organizations among minority groups. I am also part of a project out of the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School evaluating differences in health care access within certain medical subspecialties. The 'Be the Change Scholarship and Conference will help me take my next steps."
