Students at Ranney School’s Upper, Middle and Lower School, from four-year-old preschoolers to twelfth graders, will break away from their regular classes and midterm examinations on Tuesday, January 20, to witness the Inauguration of President Barack Obama, as the 44th President of the United States.
Dr. Lawrence S. Sykoff, Head of Ranney School, said given the historic nature of this inaugural, it was important to create an opportunity for students, faculty, administrators and staff to view this important event as it is occurring. “While all presidential inaugurals are significant occasions in American life, the inauguration of our first African-American president is clearly an event of historic proportions,” Dr. Sykoff said. “As part of our commitment to develop our student’s civic and political consciousnesses, we will be broadcasting the event to students throughout all three divisions.”
Ranney Upper Schoolers, grades 9 through 12, will convene in the Distance Learning Center to watch the inaugural together. Students in grades 3 through 8 will gather in Panther Hall, while students in the youngest grades, Beginners (Age 3) to second grade, will view the ceremony in their classrooms on SMARTboards® and computer screens.
