Ranney Named Finalist in Languages for Life Podcast Contest – Vote for Your Favorite
Lower and Upper School Foreign Language Club students are among the finalists in the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) Languages for Life! podcast contest.
Lower School Foreign Language Club students, under the direction of Spanish language teacher Jeanette Cordero and computer technology teacher Maureen Wood, as well as Upper School students Anna McGinty and Samantha Marc, under the direction of Renata Klein, Upper School Foreign Language Chair, are among the finalists in the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) Languages for Life! podcast contest.
Students at all grade levels throughout the country were invited by ACTFL to submit student created
video podcasts, focusing on promoting life-long learning of foreign languages. The podcasts were then judged for originality and creativity by a panel of judges. The Ranney students created their podcasts using iMovie software, which is available in Ranney’s two MAC labs, located in the Lower School Academic Complex and Upper and Middle School Academic Complex.
ACTFL is an organization that advocates for the importance of language learning as a way to unite communities around the world. This contest celebrates February 2009 as Discover Languages month, part of an ongoing public awareness campaign called Discover Languages…Discover the World! which focuses on the need for all students to have the opportunity to learn a second language.
Now that the Ranney students have been notified that their podcasts are contest finalists, the next step in the competition involves a judging period. The public can visit the ACTFL web site to view all the podcast entrees and vote for their favorite. The winning podcasts will be posted on the ACTFL web site and cash and product prizes will be available to the students who produce the winning entrees. So show your Ranney pride by logging on to the ACTFL web site and voting for your favorite pod cast
www.actflvideocontest.org (one vote per email please). The voting will remain open until Friday, February 6 at midnight Eastern Standard Time.
