The holiday season got off to an early and rousing start at Ranney thanks to a special performance by Tim McLoone and his all-volunteer band Holiday Express, one of the area’s most popular and charitable organizations.
RSPA Panther Hall was filled to capacity on December 9 as more than 400 Ranney parents, family, faculty, staff and friends gathered together to usher in the holidays and help support Holiday Express and their outreach initiatives. Invited guests enjoyed a fun-filled evening of Christmas and perennial favorites sung by professional musicians who donate their time during the year to perform with Holiday Express.
Students from the Upper School Chorus, along with members of the Middle School Chorus, made their way on to the Roberts stage to join Holiday Express in concert as they sang Put A Little Love, Winter Wonderland, Feliz Navidad, Higher and Higher and Nobody Ought to be Alone. Even Head of School Dr. Lawrence Sykoff couldn’t resist the contagious holiday spirit as he accompanied the band on his guitar.
The 90-minute program was a potpourri of songs and good cheer, with an early visit from Santa and, yes, even the Grinch stopped by. Tim McLoone, founder of Holiday Express, effortlessly engaged the audience in sing-a-longs as both young and old enjoyed the evening knowing that their participation would make a real difference in the lives of those less fortunate.
Hosted by the Ranney School Parents’ Association, the fundraiser was a resounding success. Sue Grosso, RSPA President, presented Tim McLoone and Holiday Express with a check for $16,000 that will provide holiday cheer to the underprivileged, disabled and ill this holiday season.
Ranney’s Lower School also joined in the spirit of giving, collecting items for Holiday Express and doing their own stuffed toy drive and school supply collection for children in need.
