As a part of the 50th Anniversary celebration, Pacific Encore Performances Opera Company is returning once again this year to the Ranney campus. On Saturday February 20, the Roberts Stage will be graced by a showcase of professional opera singers, all of whom are launching promising careers on the international circuit. Members of the Upper School Chorus will be singing alongside these powerful singers, as they present a concert of beloved opera scenes, Broadway favorites, popular and international music.
Pacific Encore will be filming footage for their upcoming HBO television series, "Popera!" at this concert. With cameras rolling and production teams in place, The Pacific Opera singers will capture this evening's performance as part of their ongoing 10-part series on HBO. The night will open with a trailer of their new film, followed by a spectacular live performance.
The Mission of Pacific Encore Performances is to promote the interchange of fine vocal arts and to serve as a bridge between the conservatory and grand opera stage. In this manner, they are helping the young singers at Ranney explore and perpetuate their vocal repertoire. The most beautiful music will be heard, including classics from Puccini's La Boheme, Bizet's Carmen, and Strauss's Die Fledermaus. Lighter numbers from Broadway musicals are also on the program, including pieces from Les Miserables, Carousel, and Porgy and Bess.
The concert is free and open to the public. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. There will be a dessert buffet and coffee after the concert with a chance to personally meet the opera stars. It promises to be a memorable event worthy of the 50th anniversary celebration.
