The Russell G. Ranney Chapter of the National Honor Society hosted its 4th annual Senior Senior Prom at Kensington Court Assisted Living Community on Saturday, February 13. In anticipation of Valentine's Day, students decorated the party room with red, pink and white heart-shaped balloons and heart mobiles, and red mailboxes filled with valentines were placed on every table. The students were well prepared, having taken swing dance lessons from technology teacher Stacy Goto who has been performing the role of dance instructor for the past two weeks, giving students dance lessons beginning at 7:45 a.m. twice weekly.
It was evident that their practice paid off as all the students took enthusiastically to the dance floor with their senior partners, dancing the night away to the big band sounds of the 30's and 40's. Music was provided by the Nocturnes, a 12 person band whose membership includes Jeff Shields (father of Holly Shield's class of 2007). Nearly 100 Kensington Court residents attended and seemed to enjoy the dancing, music and conversation with the students. Three cadets from Fort Monmouth also joined the festivities, donating their time to help with the dance. All three cadets are West Point bound in the fall and they enjoyed themselves so much, they offered to help with the next Senior Senior Prom scheduled for spring 2010 at Applewood Estates in Freehold.
