Ranney Senior Named 2010 Coca Cola Scholars Finalist

Ranney senior Christopher Tomasetta has been named a finalist in the 2010 Coca Cola Scholars Program for his outstanding academic achievement, leadership and extracurricular activities.

Chris was chosen from an initial pool of 75,000 applicants nationwide. As a finalist in the Coca Cola Scholars competition, he will travel to Atlanta, GA, from March 25-28 to attend the Coca-Cola Scholars Weekend to determine whether he will be designated as a National or Regional Scholar. National Scholars are eligible for a $20,000 scholarship award, while Regional Scholars will earn a $10,000 scholarship.

In addition to an exemplary academic record, Chris’ extracurricular activities include serving as president of the Ranney School Class of 2010, co-editor-in-chief of Horizons Yearbook, and co-founder and president of THINK!, a student-based initiative that educates the community about pertinent student-oriented topics. He also serves as captain of the Junior Engineering Technical Society (JETS), and captain of the Varsity Cross Country, Varsity Baseball and Varsity Swimming Teams.

“Last year, Chris distinguished himself as a New Jersey state finalist in the 2009 Wendy’s High School Heisman Award competition,” says Dr. Lawrence Sykoff, Head of School. “As a 2010 Coca Cola Scholars Finalist, he is a shining example of Ranney students at their finest - well-rounded young men and women who excel both in and out of the classroom.”

Chris’ recent accomplishment marks the second consecutive year that a Ranney School student has been selected as a finalist for this award. Katie Adams, Class of 2009, was selected as a Coca Cola Regional Scholar last year.
